Exactly a month since I started this newsletter and the response has been good thanks to you. I was anyways motivated to write these every week but the numbers over the month have also been a good boost to this endeavor and I will continue to be consistent and put out good recommendations. Alright let’s get into it!!!
Songs:
The Four Seasons (Winter) by Vivaldi - I think this classical piece is the gateway to classical music along with maybe Beethoven I might be wrong though but this is the one I always put first to get into the mood of listening to some classical. Has to be one of the most popular and known classical piece if you haven’t heard this one then please do. Also, I know its a “classical piece” and not a “song.”
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down by Joan Baez - The original song is written and performed by a Canadian-American rock group called The Band but I like this version by Joan Baez better. Truly a classic in songwriting along with story telling, just beautiful.
Mr. Rager by Kid Cudi - You know that feeling when you used to listen to a song a lot and then you got enough of it and then some years later you rediscover it. Happened to me with this song I used to listen to it a lot before then got bored and then rediscovered it again some days ago. You might know about this song already because it’s very popular but still sharing if you haven’t given it a listen then please do. My personal favorite Kid Cudi song tbh.
Florida Kilos by Lana Del Rey - One thing on my bucket list is to just learn the guitar intro of this song. That intro is worth enough to give this a listen if you haven’t already. Again a very popular song but I still wanted to keep this in because of the intro.
Mnemophobia by Brainstory - One of the best bassline I’ve heard in any song, very groovy, very addictive and just a really good song overall. My cat also likes this song btw.
That should do it for this week, let me know down in the comments which one did you like the most. YouTube videos coming up next…
YouTube Videos:
Line Rider Mountain King by DoodleChaos - Continuing with the classical pieces theme, this is one of my all time favorite videos. It’s just 2 and a half minutes long. It shows the ebbs and flows of the popular classical piece In The Hall Of Mountain King. Literally a visual representation of one’s mind while listening to this piece.
What Is The Difference Between Clay, Grass and Hard Court Surfaces ? by Tennis Lab - Title pretty self explanatory. This video gives a good, short and precise explanation between the 3 different tennis courts where most of the matches are played. It’s fascinating how player strategies vary from surface to surface.
How Succession's Composer Created the Theme Song by Vanity Fair -
Music composer Nicholas Britell explains how he made one of the best theme songs of my favorite show Succession and it’s very fascinating how much research he did to compose this theme.
Football physics: The "impossible" free kick - Erez Garty by TED-Ed - If you are an avid football fan then you probably know about this but if you aren’t like me then this is for you. Brazilian footballer Roberto Carlos scored an apparently impossible free kick against France and this video explains the physics behind it.
Linking below the video of the goal -
5 videos instead of the regular 4 this time but I had to share that free kick goal because it’s just soo amazing to watch and after watching the explanation it makes soo much sense when you watch the goal. Again let me know which video did you enjoy the most.
Documentaries/Podcast:
Documentary | Crossing The Line - "This is going to be a series to remember" AB De Villiers tweeted after the first test match of the 4 match series against Australia and boy he was right. 2 of the best teams in the world fighting it out “fair and square” or was it?? An all time classic for cricket fans and an amazing documentary made by SuperSport highly recommend watching this especially if you want to get into test cricket.
The Speed Cubers - This documentary gives the peeps into the lives of world champions in speedcubing Max Parks and Felix Zemdegs and how a normal puzzle changed their lives. This documentary is available to watch on Netflix.
Bill Burr Meets Craig Ferguson for The First Time (FULL PODCAST) - You can call this a masterclass in talking over each other. The chemistry between these 2 is amazing, half an hour just flies by when these 2 are talking about random stuff.
Mixed it up this week by adding 2 docs and only one podcast because why not. The length of podcasts and documentaries is similar so it made sense to keep these 2 sections together without disturbing the others.
Movies:
The Long Goodbye - A detective helps out his friend and gives him a ride to Mexico one night but when he comes back he is accused of being an accomplice to a murderer. No one has looked more cool than Elliot Gould (The detective) while he’s smoking a cigarette or lighting a matchstick. The scenes with him and his cat are also hilarious. This movie is available to watch on Prime Video (rent).
Clue - The host of the dinner party turns up dead in between the party and now the attendees need to investigate who’s the killer as the killer is one of them. This is the basic plot I can’t describe it much without spoiling the movie. This movie is based on the popular board game Cluedo
and it is available to watch on Prime Video (rent).
I don’t know how but Prime Video always knows which movie I want to watch that day and magically that movie is always on rent. So many good movies are on rent it’s soo annoying ngl but you got to do what you gotta do if you know what I mean (torrent).
Tv Show:
Beef - A road rage between 2 people which alters the course of their lives completely. This hilarious drama which consists only of 8 episodes and is produced by A24 is available to watch on Netflix. Apart from this being a really fun miniseries another reason why I’m recommending this show is because I have the top review for this show on Letterboxd AHAHAHAHAHAHA (Proof below). Also it has some of the best title cards for individual episodes I have ever seen.
That brings us to the end of this week’s recommendations. I’ve been really enjoying writing these posts every week and your response has also been great. Thank you for reading and have a great week ahead!!
